He was a nephew of Josef Hauptman. His childhood and youth he spent like his uncle Josef in Jeseník with his grandfather in the house Nr. 165. Since he was a child he was devoted to literature, whereas he familiarised himself with the work of his uncle. He writes with the same affection for Jeseník in his poem "Unforgettable Jeseník" like in his other works dedicated to his native land. Those are above all the works like "Aus Mährischer Scholle" and "Neubeginn." Richard Hauptmann died like his uncle Josef quite young on the 19th August 1970 on the castle Neuhof near Coburg. In 1996 a selection of his beautiful mainly lyrical poems was brought out by the Richard Hauptmann´s widow Mrs Irmgard Hauptmann.
